
This is what our front door looked like when we bought the house. Country blue and in dire need of a good sanding and paint job. Frankly it was in dire need of a mercy killing, but a new door is not in the budget. So I painted it. And this is what happened:

At first I really liked the red, but then I realized it clashed with the brick. So I hated it until I finally found a color I liked that no one else on the street has. I painted the doorknob silver (again, no budget for new hardware), and Jon re-installed our door knocker and kick plate and here's what it looks like now:
