Punish the brave

I'm going to climb up on my soapbox for a minute just so I can rant a little and wave my fists around. It won't change anything, but it will make me feel better. The picture above is of my Effexor XR. I take them for anxiety. And since China changed their regulations, the simple fact that I take the above pills on a daily basis means I can't adopt from China now. China can do what it wants, and some of the new regs I understand. I don't agree with a lot of them, but I can see where China would feel the way they do. But the one that really sticks in my craw is the one where they say that depression and anxiety are severe mental illnesses and if you've been treated for either in the last 2 years you're barred. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a whole heck of a lot of people who've gone through the agony of infertility and come out without some sort of depression or anxiety. And to those who then went and got help, I say bravo. Would China rather a give a child to a woman who desperately needs help and lies or denies herself treatment just to get the child? Or a woman who realizes hey, depression and anxiety can be treated and I can have a normal, positive life if I just admit I need help? A correctable chemical imbalance does not a bad mother make.
Ok, getting off my soapbox now.

you are so right... I don't know anyone that who has had infertaility issues and not have a bout of depression!! Esp. if they had a misscarriage or IVF fail... I think China is a bit off the deep end on this... and they aren't severe mental illnesses... bite me china!

...and your soapbox has some great thought bubbles. It is sad to think that there will be people who deny themselves treatment in order to qualify under the new regs.

Also, with all of the anxiety with the extending wait, the number of people needing such help is likely to increase as time drags on.

Problems may be a'brewin'

*wiping her butt on China's new rules*

You're right China. It's SOOOO much better to leave a child in an orphanage where they don't get individual attention than to have that child live in a loving home where the world revolves around said child. Especially if either of the parents has to take medication. Or *gasp* is obese because suuuurely someone with a weight issue wouldn't be able to parent. Or any of the other idiotic rules China has come up with. Bravo idiots, bravo.

I am so sorry China made this decision. Having been raised by an amazing woman who recognized that she needed help.. and took meds that finally finally helped her feel good and made her have the ability to be happy? I KNOW that the decision is faulty.

Good girl for screaming and waving your arms. Sometimes thats all we can do to make it ok. Scream away. I will listen :)

Totally agree. I pray every day that the new regulations won't affect those of us logged in because if they do, then we're out for the same reason. And then we will have waited seven years for a child(five infertility, two adoption) and still not have one. I can't even entertain the thought of how much antideprsessants that would make me need!

I agree with you...I sure hate that this happened at this time, though.

Catch 22... You would NOT want me raising a child of any kind without my Prozac. Very sad day for modern Mental Health.
