Heartborn

My Mom treated my sister Sara and her husband Marc to a night in a hotel this weekend. So Mom & Hale babysat the boys and I went over to visit for a few hours. Trying to get Jake's pjs on was a challenge and he sure did look at us like we did not know what we were doing. Joey's looking more like himself every time I see him. You know how newborns all kinda look squished up and pink? So now he's growing into his face and turning into a real cutie- very alert and looking around and smiling already. Both of those boys are just so sweet. Sara's a great mom and it shows in her kids.

Thank you for all of your support. The loss of the ability to have a child is huge. Knowing I can never give Jon a child with his eyes or my freakishly short legs is heartbreaking. But we're dealing with it and while it will never be easy we're learning that even though our children won't be born from my womb, they'll be born in our hearts, and that's pretty amazing.

You are definitely making a wonderful choice. As far as I know, I can have kid (haven't tried yet) but I want to adopt one anyway. I heard it said once that sometimes an adoption can be even more special. It means that you wanted them SO much that you chose them. Anyone can have a baby. I always thought that was so beautiful to tell a child. "We wanted to have you sooo very much that we went and found you." :-)

I don't know if you were planning to adopt a girl or boy but I saw a show on tv several months ago about all the chinese girls that need homes due to China's population control measures. So many of them were healthy, smart, and very cute. I wasn't sure if you had given any thought to adopting a child from another country but I wanted to put the bug in your ear about the chinese girls just in case. Of course there are a lot of kids here that need homes too. I know y'all are going to be great parents and I'm looking forward to the day when we start seeing photos on your blog of your little one. :)
